SNAP is in the midst of planning activities and programs for its 2016-17 year. While our mission is to help residents age in place in their own homes for as long as possible, we also know that may not be possible for every resident in our community. Having a “Plan B” for more supportive housing is vital for each of us to design and keep on the back burner, in case it is needed. It is unfortunate when a health crisis occurs and someone else must make decisions for us.

Residents often have questions about senior living facilities in Tucson. Beginning in September, we have scheduled Facility Tours for a variety of senior living accommodations — independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities and memory care homes. Tour reservations will be limited; please let us know of your interest in participating in these Tours PDQ via the SNAPLine at 437-9556 or . One of the greatest advantages of these Tours is that you will have opportunities to visit various facilities in a group, ask questions, and discuss your thoughts or concerns with friends or neighbors; additional information will be sent to those who indicate an interest.

Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) is offering one of its evidence-based self-management programs entitled “Healthy Living with Chronic Pain” from 10 – 12:30 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Foothills, beginning July 14th. The six week course is geared for those who live with chronic pain or for those who are caregivers for a person with chronic pain. The cost is $35 per person or $45 per couple. Preregistration is required. Call PCOA at 520-790-7262 or register online at https://www.pcoa.org/services/healthy-living/.

If you have suggestions for topics for the upcoming Senior Living Education Series, please share them via one of the SNAPLines above. As always, suggestions for change or improvements are appreciated.

It’s never too hot for the Lunch Bunch to gather at the Sunrise Mountain Ridge clubhouse. Please bring your own brown bag lunch and join us on June 29th from 11:30 – 1 PM. Dessert and a beverage are on the house.
