We don’t know when other mailboxes will be replaced. We expect they will be replaced a few at a time over the next month or so. The post office doesn’t know when they will be replaced either as the work is done by a USPS contractor. (We were caught by surprise to see the mailboxes being replaced on Saturday or would have notified homeowners earlier.)
Homeowners will need to go to the Fort Lowell post office at 6460 E Grant Rd to pick up their new keys one or two business days after the mailboxes are installed. (Homeowners with mailboxes near the North Pool should be able to get their keys on Tuesday.)
Here’s how the change to new mailboxes is handled: When the contractor installs the new mailboxes, he leaves the keys in the box. The next time Dave, our regular carrier, delivers mail he will assign boxes, confirm the keys work, and place the keys in an envelope which he will take to the post office. It should be possible for homeowners to pick up their keys the following day. Depending on whether the boxes are installed before or after the carrier delivers for the day, and whether the regular carrier or a substitute delivers, the keys may not be at the post office for pickup for a day or two.
The procedure for replacing mailboxes is new to all of us, so there may be glitches and delays. We will post updates on the website as new information develops.
