Most of you have already noticed the extensive addition of wrought iron at the South Pool entrance. This enhancement for beauty, safety and security matches the North Pool entrance. Following the South Pool installation, all areas of wood or wrought iron that needed painting were completed as well as repainting the gazebo at the South Pool.

As mentioned in the Fall 2013 Newsletter, the coating of several pool ladders has not matched expectations. Keith Pierce of Discount Pools has been diligent in working with the supplier to assist with warranty replacement twice. Subsequently, the supplier came to Tucson for a site visit. After meeting with us, he has agreed to provide a superior fiberglass product for Keith’s installation. Again, selection of committed, reputable vendors and subcontractors provided SMVE Homeowners with service and warranty backup because of persistent follow-up and negotiation. Conclusion: a reputable warranty matters.

Assessment of electrical services and lighting at both pools has begun. This project was initiated at the North Pool area with the major Sunrise/Otono Project mentioned in the Landscaping Report. All the old wiring in fixtures has deteriorated, and 28-year-old fixtures obviously because of code violations are beyond repair. A major replacement project is underway. You’ll note the first stage began with new path lights with high code metal conduits along the front North Pool walkway. Also, David Manning and Sue Vaughan shopped for new fixtures, provided choices, and delivered a final product at the entries to the North Pool and Clubhouse. You now can enjoy classy new fixtures that perfectly match the Spanish architecture complete with LED bulbs that offer added lighting for the parking area at a reduced operating cost. Dusk to dawn sensors were also included for safety and security. Special kudos go to both Homeowners who volunteered to share their time, expertise, and creative design skills for the benefit of all the SMVE Community.

Finally, a new pool heater has been put in service at the North Pool, the North Spa light has been replaced with a sealed LED waterproof bulb ($450.00), and an added level of monitoring the North Pool for all pool chemicals has been put in place. The South Pool has been re-opened for swimming after a respite for the December, January, and February season that recouped unspent natural gas heating costs for the same period. Joint projects with the Landscape Committee will progress to the South Pool as capital funds permit, including removal and replacement of 28-year-old infrastructure, fixtures, and other recreation amenities.
